Adopt a Family
Adopt a Family is still going on until next Wednesday. We have 11 people to purchase items for and yet we've only received about $650.00. If you haven't contributed, but still want to, please get your money in as soon as possible. We want to do what we can for these two families and yet, we realize we can't do this without your help. We typically raise about $2000, but we recognize that being an impossible goal to reach this year. We would love to collect at least $1000.00, so if you haven't contributed and want to, every little bit will help us reach our goal.
Thanks for all you do to support the Corps and the causes we support. Have a great day everyone!

President Update December 7, 2009
Hi Everyone,
Hope you are doing well! Here is this week's update:
First of all, Booster Club meeting is tonight at 6:00 p.m. at the hangar. Hope you can make it. Your input is always welcome and needed, so if you have the time, come on out!
Secondly, we still will need drivers for Wreaths Across America. So far, we have three drivers. We aren't quite sure of the headcount yet for those cadets that are attending, but with our typical response to activities, I am sure we will need a couple of more. See below for more information. Contact Christie directly to sign up to drive.
Don't forget that this Wednesday there is Early Release day. There will be no drill team practice for this Wednesday and Friday. During the month of December, Friday's will be taken off.
Item of huge importance: ADOPT A FAMILY!!
We are signed up to provide Christmas gifts for two families. Since we are committed to two, we'd really like to provide Christmas for these two families. So far, we've only collected about $400. Typically, we raise about $2000.00.
We will collect money through next Wednesday, before we go purchase gifts. If you've forgotten or just haven't taken the time yet to help out, here's a gentle reminder! :-) Whatever you can give will be much appreciated...no amount is too small. If we all pitch in, we can make the holidays really special for two families who need it. We hope you will consider donating to help out these two families.
Our foster children's party is next week from 2:00-4:00 at the hangar. This is a great service opportunity for our cadets and a fun time for the kids that attend. Details will be discussed in depth this week in class.
And finally, permission slips have gone out for Richmond. We know this is an expensive time of year with the holidays and all, but we'd really like to see permission slips and money come back for Richmond before winter break. If you are planning on attending, but can't pay until after the break, you MUST make arrangements with Major before winter break. To keep our costs at the price that they are right now, we must have 30 cadets attend this trip. Please understand that we are locked in to our contracts and cannot break these contracts at the last minute. We must give 30 days notice to the bus company if we should have to cancel. We HAVE to know before winter break that we will have enough cadets going on this trip to be able to pay for the trip. Please get your permission slips and money in to Major as soon as possible.
Hope all of you are doing well. I appreciate all of your support these last few months. Things have slowed down a bit from a busy fall, but good things are still happening with our Corps. I am glad to be a part of this organization and I'm proud of our cadets for the many good things they do. Thanks for everything!

President Update November 18, 2009
Just a tiny,little, quick update:
Thanks to everyone for your support at last weekend's Terry Sanford Drill Competition. Lunch was a success, the day was beautiful (eventually), and the cadets did well. We truly do appreciate all your support.
Just a reminder that today is a PLC day, so the cadets will be released early from school and there will be no drill team practice today.
Friday is the Riverside/Hillside drill competition. The drill team will leave directly after school and should be back to Riverside (according to the permission slip) around 5:00. We have some leftovers from Saturday's lunch, so the cadets will get a snack before they leave. Hillside graciously serves pizza after the competition, so they'll also be fed before they head back to school.
Mark your calendars for the following dates:
Adopt a Family money collections started on Monday. We'd love to take care of two families during the holidays, so you have anytime between now and December 14 to contribute. In case you don't know what this is, the cadets collect money for at least one (if not two) needy families and then purchase gifts for those families. What I love about this is that the cadets are the ones responsible for collecting the money, the cadets then do the shopping for the families, and then they wrap the gifts. This is truly a wonderful experience for everyone involved.
Booster Club Meeting December 7 at 6:00.
Wreaths Across America December 12
Foster Children's Party December 13 2:00-4:00 The cadets will be planning this party and will ask for donations of snacks for the kids attending. More information will follow.
Permission slips for the Richmond trip went out yesterday. Richmond is January 15-16. The cost is $105. Due to the last minute nature of receiving some of our cadet's money, we are asking families to try and get this paid before the holiday break. We are locked into going on this trip due to the contracts we've made with the bus company and the hotel. It is really important that we know who will be attending and who will not (early on) so we don't have the same issues like we did for Clemson. Please make sure you are communicating with Major and Sergeant about whether or not your cadet will be attending this drill competition. We will be staying at the Kings Quarters Best Western right beside Kings Dominion. Please note: You are welcome to start sending in payments for this trip. If it makes it easier to send in $20 at a time, we are happy for you to do so. Breakfast will be provided at the hotel, but no other meals will be provided for this trip, so money for fast food meals is required.
Military Ball tickets are now on sale. Cost is $15 per cadet or $25 for two cadets. We have 50 tickets right now available for sale. I am not quite sure how many have been sold, but keep reminding your cadet to pay for their ticket(s) as soon as possible so they don't miss out. The Military Ball is January 22 at the Hilton in RTP.
Have a great day everyone. Thanks for all you do.

President Update November 7, 2009
Hi all,
I hope that you've had a nice week. I'm so proud of the cadets for their efforts in the Veteran's Day parade. Every time I go and watch them, I feel such pride for our cadets serving those who have valiantly served our country. It is quite humbling to see the crowd with tears in their eyes or signs that say "thank you"...this parade means something to so many people. I am so glad that we get to be a part of this event and want to send a special thanks to our cadets for another job well done. Thanks also to Anne Robinson for graciously taking time out of her schedule to drive the bus for the cadets. I for one am truly grateful!!
Just a reminder that there is no school on Wednesday due to the Veteran's Day holiday.
So, here's the scoop for this next week:
We have Terry Sanford coming up on Saturday. Don't forget that the cost is $10.00 which will cover the cost of the competition fees. Lunch is provided by the generous donations of our parents. Thank you, yet again, for all you do to support the Corps. It really means so much. We will be serving sandwiches again, as it is great to keep the uniforms neat and tidy and the cadets say they feel better eating a lighter meal rather than a really heavy one.
We will need the following for approx. 80 people:
Meat
Cheese
Lettuce
Tomato
Potato Salad
Pasta Salad
Veggie Tray
Fruit
Chips
Dessert
Canned Drinks
Please let me know if you are able to help out. Also, below, we have directions to Terry Sanford. We will be meeting at the hangar at 5:30 am. and will return around 7:00 p.m. WE HAD QUITE A FEW CADETS WHO WERE LATE TODAY... PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CADET IS ON TIME AND DRESSED IN UNIFORM!!! Also, make sure you listen out for a phone call on Saturday evening so we can inform you of our exact arrival time. We don't want Major and Sergeant to have to wait much longer than our arrival time, especially with such a long day of competition. Anyway,we look forward to another successful drill competition and thank you so very much for your support!
Have a great day everyone.

President Update October 12, 2009
Hi everyone,
I hope you've had a great week. I am sure everyone is happy to have a weekend off from ROTC stuff. We were all due for a little break!
We are gearing up for a few events in the next couple of weeks.
One important event is our Walk-a-thon which is currently going on. We are now collecting pledges to help raise funds for the Military Ball. We hope you will consider participating by raising much needed funds for the Corps. If everyone raised at least $10, we would have almost $1000. My hope is that everyone will try to raise even more than that, as we need these funds for our Booster Club. Please, everyone, try and support this fundraiser. We defnitely need your help! The Walk-a-thon will be held on October 23 during each flight's regular ROTC class period. We ask that all money is returned by November 2.
Next Friday, we have another home football game. We are serving soup and grilled cheese sandwiches.
We need at least five or six crock pots of soup-your choice, just let me know what kind so I can make sure to fill in the blanks to have a variety.
Several loaves of white bread
Cheese
Drinks
Dessert
If you want to contribute towards this game meal, that would be great. Please let me know as soon as possible if you are able to contribute.
The Clemson Drill Comp will be on Saturday, October 24. We will be leaving on Friday, October 23 after school. Cost for this trip is $115.00. Please get your money and permission slips in as soon as possible. The fee includes the drill competition registration fees, the bus, and the hotel. Please note: each cadet will still need money for meals for this trip (meals will include a Friday night fast food meal, a fast food lunch, and a fast food dinner). Breakfast will be continental in the hotel. In case anyone wants to join us down in South Carolina, we will be staying at the Sleep Inn on Tiger Blvd. If you have any questions about this, feel free to contact me.
On another note, the Inspection went well. The cadets were complimented on their drill, their uniforms, and many other parts of the program were evaluated well. Of course, we didn't receive perfect marks on everything (as expected), but we did well. Thanks to all the cadets, Major Bailey, and Sgt. Smith for a job well done.
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for all you do.
Leah
